Product Managers need a high degree of self-motivation to achieve their desired goals and objectives. Staying motivated always is not easy at all, because Product Management can be a ruthless and selfless role. The Product Managers are the first one taking the blame when the products that are shipped do not meet the desired expectations.

Why do PM lose Motivation?

· Product Management is a high demanding role — An exceptional Product Manager needs to be an expert when it comes to handling development teams, scrum ceremonies, customer interactions and there is no end to this list. You need to be mentally strong, and it becomes tough to stay motivated in such testing times.

· Take the Blame when Products/Features don’t do well — This is the most common problem when Product Managers must take the blame when things do not work out well. This hurts big time and there is no escaping out from the reality.

· Lack of Growth Opportunities — When you are working hard to deliver exceptional results but can foresee no horizontal or vertical growth in the long run. This tends to create a feeling of self-doubt.

Why is Self-Motivation Essential for Product Managers?

· Product Managers spend most of their time working closely with different stakeholders and leading meetings. These activities consume a lot of time and energy. Unless a PM is self-motivated, excited, and enthusiastic about the work, desired results cannot be delivered in the long run.

· If a PM is not motivated, high degree of attention cannot be attained as well.

How to have high self-motivation?

· It is important to take charge of your life and the work you are doing to meet customer expectations; you should take pride in your work rather than doing nothing about it.

· Create short term as well as long term goals personally as well as professionally. Make sure that you are tracking its progress every week to see where you are in terms of achieving it.

· Take out time to talk to users that are using your product. Use their feedback in a constructive way to improvise what needs to be build.

To Sum Up Things

Do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Asking your help clearly shows your grit and determination to get better. Motivation is an essential trait, but it becomes effective when you are disciplined.
